Skin is classified into four types:
- Dry Skin
- Normal Skin
- Oily Skin
- Combination Skin
Before starting a skin care regimen you should find your skin type. I have listed some simple tests that can be performed from the comforts of your home.
Begin by gently washing your face with a neutral soap or clenser. For washing your face use tips of your fingers, apply some force but not too much and make circular movements. Rinse with water and dry by patting with a soft towel. Take a large facial tissue and cover your face with it. Leave the tissue on your face for about a minute then remove gently. Examine the tissue paper against a well lignted window or source of light.
Dry Skin: No sign of oil indicates oily skin.
Normal Skin: If you see very little oil through out you have dry skin.
Oily Skin: If you see oil throughout the tissue you have oily skin.
Combination Skin: Oily spots in the tssue paper forming shape of letter “T” indicates you have combination skin. Combination skin means facial skin on forehead, nose and chin area is oily.
If your skin feels irritated or slightly itchy you most likely have sensitive skin.
Perform tissue test at the begining of new season (spring, winter, monsoon, & winters) and during the season as skin type changes with season in some people.
Watch this space for skin care for different skin types.
